Der Film erzählt die wechselhafte Geschichte vier gigantischer sozialistischer Volkspaläste und die der Menschen, die sie bauten, mit ihnen aufwuchsen und sie heute noch instandhalten. Im Fokus stehen der „Palast der Wissenschaften“ in Moskau, der „Palast Serbiens“ in Belgrad, der „Kulturpalast“ in Sofia sowie der „Parlamentspalast“ in Bukarest. Diese Paläste für das Volk, einst für eine revolutionäre Ewigkeit gebaut, haben ihre Auftraggeber überdauert und suchen nun nach neuer Bedeutung und Verwendung in einer Welt ohne Könige.

The documentary film and series tell the sometimes bizarre stories of the gigantic socialist people's palaces and the people who built them, maintain them and carry them in their childhood memories. The protagonists are the “Palace of Sciences” in Moscow, the “Palace of Serbia” in Belgrade, the “Palace of Culture” in Sofia and the “Palace of Parliament” in Bucharest. These palaces for the people, once built for a revolutionary eternity, have outlived their patrons and are now looking for new meaning and use in a world without kings.
